Copa Beach House, Copacabana NSW

Deliver a high-end kitchen for a high-end home at a reasonable price? This was a perfect project to be tackled by the Taylor Made Solutions custom joinery team.

The owner of this beachside home at Copacabana on NSW’s Central Coast was looking to add a new kitchen and laundry as part of a larger home expansion project. Taylor Made Solutions were given the brief to design, build and install a kitchen and matching laundry for the soon to be completed space.

A key requirement of the brief was for these functional areas to contribute to the light and airy aspects of the seaside location while blending with the adjacent open plan living areas. The colour palette needed to be neutral to balance furnishing colour accents, and finishes needed to be high quality to match the standard of an architecturally-designed home. Including the kitchen and laundry in the same brief would enable some economies of scale for the owner, as well as ensuring the two areas were stylistically consistent.

The Taylor Made Solutions team conducted an initial site visit to gain a full understanding of the client’s requirements and how best to optimise functionality of both spaces. As the home extension was still in the final stages of construction, this was also an opportunity to confirm the best locations for appliances and give input into the location of essential services such as power points.

An important consideration for the kitchen layout was accommodating a 900mm wide under-bench oven and induction cooktop. As the room had been purposefully built with the intention of the adjacent window forming the cooktop splashback, the benchtop and cabinetry needed to be aligned with precision. The same applied to the dishwasher, which was intended to be integrated with the custom joinery.

Functionality was a key area where Taylor Made Solutions provided design advice, ensuring working areas were planned to consider ergonomics and efficiency. The central island bench would offer a large workspace, as well as storage and a location for casual dining. The enclosed pantry area, with above bench floating shelves and below bench enclosed cupboards, would maximise easy access to day-to-day items. A custom-built buffet flanking the edge of the interior stairway would provide a useful barrier, additional storage, and help delineate the kitchen and lounge areas.

At the opposite end of the living area, the laundry room design benefited from Taylor Made Solutions expertise in organising smaller spaces. Following a galley-style layout, customised cabinetry would maximise storage and workbench areas, while accommodating the essential appliances and housing cleaning equipment.

In the final stages of the design process, a visit to Taylor Made Solutions new showroom and a meeting with the inhouse designer allowed cabinetry finishes and fittings to be viewed, tested and selected. To deliver the neutral palette and open space feel, a flat panel door profile with finger pulls (no handles) was selected, along with high quality hardware including Blum soft close door hinges and drawer mechanisms.

Once the design was finalised, Taylor Made Solutions manufacturing and installation teams took over. After manufacturing the cabinetry at their factory, the team coordinated the necessary trades to complete the delivery and installation, providing the client with a seamless experience. With Taylor Made Solutions undertaking every stage of this Central Coast custom kitchen and laundry project, they were able to monitor each step in the process and keep the client up to date.

And the client’s reaction to the finished product versus the initial design brief? “They nailed it! Plus they delivered on time, and importantly, on budget.”
